New Caledonia, famous for its biodiversity has, since 2008, six large zones of its lagoon registered as part of the world heritage list by UNESCO.
Surrounded by a lagoon, Nouméa is a large peninsula at the south end of the main island.
The event will take place at the Anse Vata bay, from the Rocher à la voile (to the west) to the Chateau Royal (to the south east).
The coast line is mostly touristic with most of the hotels directly facing the ocean and many of the leisure activities such as the aquarium, race ground, golf practice, shopping esplanades, casinos, rental outlets, tour operators…. During the event all will be concentrated in an ephemeral village loaded with activities, sponsors and the sailor’s containers.
For the past 6 years the ANG has brought back slalom racing to the Anse Vata with an event at least once a month.
Paddle boards are plentiful on the lagoon until 11.00 am when the trade winds set in to turn the bay into a playground for the slalom and freestyle sailors, from the flat anse vata to the swell and large chop between Duck Island and Ilot maître. Each reef break turns into a wave sailor paradise.
Antoine Albeau talks about the spot :
“I’ve been to New Cal a couple of times, when I entered the Grand prix first edition I realized what the local spots had to offer ! Anse vata bay will be a great venue for the slalom world final, the beach being so close will allow the public to enjoy the show….”
